It’s Time For…

…AN-I-MAN-IACS!

Welcome back, everyone! Today, I’m gonna take a look at Animaniacs (Obviously).

Lasting for five seasons over as many years, Animaniacs was an animated variety show fronted from Yakko, Wakko, and Dot, the Warner Siblings. They were accompanied by several other characters who appeared in their own segments, including Rita and Runt, the Hip Hippos, Skippy Squirrel, and most famously, Pinky and the Brain.

We’ve already looked at a set of Pinky and the Brain from the 2020 revival, but today’s pics will all be from the original 90s cartoon.

First, we’ll look at one of the show’s intro sequences, namely the one before Piano Rag and When Rita Met Runt.

In the water tower where the Warners usually live, one hears a toilet flushing, and then the camera pans down, and we see…

…which is honestly pretty disgusting when one thinks about it.

And… orange wetsuits? Interesting color choice…

Also, I really don’t care for masks where the lens colors are completely solid so you can’t see their eyes. Always hated that.

OK, next, we have the Hip Hippos in ‘Can’t Buy A Thrill’, wherein Falvio and Marita are bored and try to go on a thrill seeking vacation, which includes shark diving.

Yup, they literally splash out part of the ocean.

Also, another nitpick here… no form of delivery from those air tanks? Come on, that’s just lazy.

OK, next up, we have Wakko’s 50 States song. The background here is that the Warners are on a Jeopardy style game show, and the ‘answer’ of The State Capitals of All 50 States comes up, and it’s on Wakko to answer, and he sure does…

…except he fails to answer in the form of a question, so his nearly two minute long song is rejected.

Here’s a video link for this one…

Finally, we have Useless Facts, which only appeared in one episode. There were four of these segments, and one of them highlights that shrimps have their hearts in their heads.

And here’s the video link with the segment. Keep in mind that in the second segment, Yakko uses a term for northern indigenous peoples in North America and elsewhere largely considered to be offensive today.

And that’s the lot! I hope everyone enjoyed the look back, and I’ll see you next time!

Some Very Good Boys

Welcome back, everyone.

I decided it’s past time for a new entry, so let’s take a look at some more dogs!

First, let’s take a look at Pat and Stan. Spanning 6 years, 362 short episodes, and a half hour special, the dog (Stan), and hippo (Pat) are basically an odd couple duo.

First, in ‘Ears’, Pat is trying to clean out Stan’s ears after a swim, and it’s… yeah.

That’s a mighty big ear canal…

Here’s the short.

Next up, we have Onions. No prizes for guessing what this one was about.

And here’s the video…

Finally, we have ‘The Band Wagon’, wherein the pair participate in a play.

And here’s the episode, which is amongst several others. Went with this because this is a HD version.

Alright, we’ll end today with a set from Mutt and Stuff, a 2015 show that was Sid and Marty Krofft’s first production in over a decade. This was a vehicle for Cesar, and particularly, his son, Calvin, Millan. Cesar is, of course, known as the dog whisperer.

This show stars Calvin and a massive dog named Stuff, along with a bunch of real dogs who are regularly inserted into very uncomfortable looking costumes.

So, this set is from the episode ‘A Goldfish Opportunity’, wherein Stuff aims to prove himself capable of taking care of, well, what do you think?

Unfortunately, this is all I have of the show, as I’ve never been able to find full episodes of the show. They’re available for streaming, apparently, on the American Amazon Prime Video service, but, one, I’m Canadian, and second, the Millan’s give me a vibe that makes me not want to give money to them, so for now, this is all I’m getting.

Anyway, here’s the clip.

Stuff’s kinda freaky, huh? Then again, he’s a Krofft creation, so it’s pretty on brand.

Well, that’s all for this entry, folks. See you all next time!

Random Day 4

Welcome back, folks!  Today’s a Random Day, where I throw in some miscellaneous stuff that wouldn’t necessarily fit into their own posts.

First, we’ll start with something small… this is from Madagascar 3.

Yeah, because this is totally conspicuous, right?

This next set is from I Am Weasel, which was mostly part of the Cow and Chicken cartoon save for a final standalone season.  This followed a weasel that was the definition of a Gary Stu (in other words, perfect in every way), but in that case of this show, that was kind of the joke.  His frenemy was a baboon who was always trying to one-up Weasel, without success.  There’s more to it, but you can look it up.

I feel it’s worth noting that Weasel was voiced by Michael Dorn, best known as Lt. Commander Worf of Star Trek: The Next Generation.

This is from ‘Deep Sea Tour’.

Here are a few from the Jimmy Two Shoes cartoon.  I don’t remember the episode, though.

Finally, to end the week, here’s some from the Teddy Ruxpin book ‘Water Safety with Teddy Ruxpin’.

Come on, Grubby… really?

OK, folks, that’s it for now.  However, please come back in two weeks, when a month long special will get underway, which will include weekly postings for the month.  It highlights a franchise that I’m sure a few of you have been waiting for.

See you then!

Three Chicks, a Fox, and a Sunken Ship

Time for the final set of Eena Meena and Deeka pics.

This is from Sunken Ship.  OK, so Bhukkad was trying to chase down the chicks on a ship they were piloting, short story short, the ship sank.  The chicks are trying to raise it again, but of course our foxy friends is trying to take advantage of their distraction…

Yes, he captured an electric eel in a clam, shot it at the boat trying to help raise the chicks’ ship, and cause it to fail.  Yep, totally makes sense.

I’m actually going to just post of the rest of these without any commentary.  Honestly… what can I say?  This was just weird.

Seriously, what the hell?

If you wanna trying to make sense of this, just watch the episode.  Don’t worry about any language barrier, it’s got no dialogue anyway.

So that’s all I have from this show for now.  Not sure why I decided to post these now.  Just felt like it I suppose.

Till next time!

Ollie’s Undersea Hijinks Part 2

And we’re back for part 2 of Ollie’s undersea education in pain.

So last we left off, Ollie had just caught a rather large fish in his net, and now cue the chase scene!

He just… pulled a slab off of himself. We usually wait until they’re dead before sectioning off the cow, Ollie.

Wow, he’s actually got the courage to fight back a bit.

Well, this is one way to escape.

Oh, look, the hippo’s back, and now Ollie’s a dentist. Hope he gave that hippo a hefty bill.

Jumping ahead a bit here, Ollie now meets one of the local octopi. He actually does get the better of this encounter though.

Treasure time! Also, king of the jellyfish. And dog skeletons. Ollie clearly forgot his holy water and crucifix.

Oh, look, shells! And guarding them is… some walrus kid.

And cue another chase scene! The kid is clearly more than a match for the cow here…

However, Ollie doesn’t forgive slights easily, and he catches the kid napping. We don’t generally approve of watching children while they sleep, Ollie, parents notwithstanding.

Speaking of parents… OH MY GOD! Tuck your head between your legs and kiss your ass goodbye, Ollie.

Apparently, he survived that encounter, and is back for one last bit. What finally sends him packing? Shark with a taste for moo-cow? Clams with teeth? A walrus that looks like he’d swallow him whole? Nope, electric eels!

This wasn’t quite the last of Ollie aquatic experience, though; he had a shorter bit.

Clam beds, that you lie in. Shocking that this isn’t an actual trend, somehow.

Tooth brushing with crocs. Always a safe activity. Also, yes, his snorkel is in his nose.

Here’s one way to deal with a big fish if they, you know, happened to have perfectly placed holes in their face.

Finally, to end off, Ollie gets to meet some whales.

So that’s all from this series that I know of that fits into this blog. He does do some more stuff involving helmets, improvised subs, and so on, but that falls outside of this blog’s scope. For the stuff above, look up “Undersea Ollie” and “Boes – Onderwater”

Fall Week continues tomorrow!

Fall

Welcome back, aquaphiles.

Today is the first day of Fall! The leaves are changing color and falling, farmers are harvesting, and many animals in the woods are getting ready for winter.

So for five days this week, I’ll be posting stuff that kinda lines up with that.

To start us off, I thought I’d post shots from a show called Ox Tales, which only ran for a year in Japan initially from March 1987 to April 1988. It was based off of the Dutch comic strip Boes by Wil Raymakers and Thijs Wilms, and was translated into several other languages, including English. The comic still continues in Dutch publications to this day, actually.

The protagonist, Ollie (renamed Boes in a later dub in 2010) the Ox, runs the Funny Farm, which supposedly has every creature concievable within it.

So is it a farm, or a zoo? Eh, whichever.

Anyway, Ollie’s had a couple of trips under the sea. Let’s see here…

The turtle is Jack, his best friend. Also, stripes do not flatter you, Ollie. Just sayin’.

Oh, and he’s about to jump off of a cliff. Let’s see how well THIS goes!

Oh look, a hippo in the ocean. You’re a long way from home, I fear…

Wow, this looks like it would tickle… a lot.

Oh, great, what did you see, Ollie? A sea cow? *Ba-Dum-Tsh*

Nope, it’s a clam! With an attitude.

Gotcha, bitch!

…. or not. More clams with teeth? Guess Bernard and Ollie can start an Ostraconophobia (that is, fear of crustaceans, including clams) club.

Yeah, Ollie, I think you should just forget the clams.

The cow with no face, everyone.

You were wondering how long it’d be before the shark showed up, didn’t you?

And I think I’ll leave it there for today. Will Ollie be shark food? Probably not, but come back tomorrow for part 2 of Ox Tales’ entry here anyway!
