It’s Time For…

…AN-I-MAN-IACS!

Welcome back, everyone! Today, I’m gonna take a look at Animaniacs (Obviously).

Lasting for five seasons over as many years, Animaniacs was an animated variety show fronted from Yakko, Wakko, and Dot, the Warner Siblings. They were accompanied by several other characters who appeared in their own segments, including Rita and Runt, the Hip Hippos, Skippy Squirrel, and most famously, Pinky and the Brain.

We’ve already looked at a set of Pinky and the Brain from the 2020 revival, but today’s pics will all be from the original 90s cartoon.

First, we’ll look at one of the show’s intro sequences, namely the one before Piano Rag and When Rita Met Runt.

In the water tower where the Warners usually live, one hears a toilet flushing, and then the camera pans down, and we see…

…which is honestly pretty disgusting when one thinks about it.

And… orange wetsuits? Interesting color choice…

Also, I really don’t care for masks where the lens colors are completely solid so you can’t see their eyes. Always hated that.

OK, next, we have the Hip Hippos in ‘Can’t Buy A Thrill’, wherein Falvio and Marita are bored and try to go on a thrill seeking vacation, which includes shark diving.

Yup, they literally splash out part of the ocean.

Also, another nitpick here… no form of delivery from those air tanks? Come on, that’s just lazy.

OK, next up, we have Wakko’s 50 States song. The background here is that the Warners are on a Jeopardy style game show, and the ‘answer’ of The State Capitals of All 50 States comes up, and it’s on Wakko to answer, and he sure does…

…except he fails to answer in the form of a question, so his nearly two minute long song is rejected.

Here’s a video link for this one…

Finally, we have Useless Facts, which only appeared in one episode. There were four of these segments, and one of them highlights that shrimps have their hearts in their heads.

And here’s the video link with the segment. Keep in mind that in the second segment, Yakko uses a term for northern indigenous peoples in North America and elsewhere largely considered to be offensive today.

And that’s the lot! I hope everyone enjoyed the look back, and I’ll see you next time!

Request Megamix

Welcome back, everyone! Today’s the final week of the five year anniversary, so I’ll be doing a megamix of requests I’ve gotten over the years that were too small to warrant their own entries.

I got a request some time ago to cover Geronimo Stilton, so I’ll do that first here.

Geronimo Stilton, for those of you who don’t know, is actually the creation of Elisabetta Dami, the daughter of a publisher in Italy. She would create the series while working in a children’s hospital, after noting the lessons of Patch Adams.

First set we’ll look at is from ‘The Enormouse Pearl Heist’, wherein Geronimo helps find a massive pearl, publishes a story about it (he’s the editor of a newspaper), and deals with the fallout of said story.

Here’s the scene where he, along with Simon and Petunia (characters just for this story, I think) end up diving for this pearl. The cover is from the Italian version.

Next up, we have ‘The Search for Sunken Treasure’. Basically, it’s exactly what it says on the cover. Speaking of covers, there’s two of them here, the second a cover that ran in the UK, I think.

Next, we have a couple of sets from the Thea Stilton (Geronimo’s action oriented sister) spinoff, which stars her and her all-female team of adventurers. This first set is from Thea Stilton and the Ghost of the Shipwreck.

This pic is from ‘Treasure of the Viking Ship’.

Here’s a pic of a couple of randos from the 2nd edition of their ‘Vacaciones Para Todos’ workbooks.

Finally, here’s a random pic…

Only one I have with the characters’ TV show designs.

Alrighty, next up, we have Doraemon, a Japanese character who is a time travelling robotic cat. He, for whatever reason, decides to travel back from the 22nd century to help a boy named Nobita along with his life.

More details can be found at the Wikipedia article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doraemon

Mostly, I just have this group of miscellaneous pics.

I also have this very short set from episode 707 of the current anime, titled “Umi o hito kire kiritotte” (海をひときれ切りとって in Japanese).

Not exactly surprising that there’s not a lot of him, considering that he’s a robot, of course.

Alrighty, time to go back to Sesame Street! I know some of you have been wanting more of that.

We’ll start with some miscellaneous stuff. The coloring pages with Grover are from the ABC Activity Book, the Storytime Activity Book, and the Animal ABCs Book.

These next two sets are actually from the Arabic co-production ‘Iftah Ya Simsim’ and later ‘Ahlan SimSim’.

This one here depicts a game show with the local Big Bird, Nu’Man. presiding.

And the video…

Next, we have something of a Elmo’s World/Global Grover segment.

The video:

Finally, we have a set from The Furchester Hotel, something of a spinoff with Elmo and Cookie Monster in it. Starring Fergus and Funella, and their daughter Pheobe, they run a hotel (poorly) with usually different guests each episode, although there are some… long term bookings in there.

These are from ‘Leaky Room’, a season 2 episode where they host a fish family. They have a specialized aquarium suite, but, well… it’s not hard to guess what happens, huh?

Gotta say, you don’t see full body views a whole lot on the main show, so this is actually nice.

Unfortunately, I don’t think there’s any free vids on the episode around right now.

Next up, Tiny Toons! Many of you will know them, but if you’re a little young to remember them, it basically followed a bunch of teenage cartoon characters attending ACME Looniversity, hoping to follow in the footsteps of the Warner Brothers stars of old.

Big set for this one is from ‘Tiny Toon Music Television’, during a segment where Buster messes with Bugs’ scene creator tool.

..and quickly regrets it.

And the vid…

And here’s some hodgepodge, starring Plucky, Hamton, and Furball…

I apologize, because I don’t know where any of these come from.

Alright, to end the festivities here, we have the Animal Show With Stinky and Jake. One of the Hensons first attempts at an animal education show, Jake the polar bear and Stinky the skunk lead explorations into animals of the day, which visit them on set.

These are from the ‘Whale’ episode. Apologies for the poor quality.

And there we have it, folks! Thanks for coming to my little party this month! Next Friday will be the regular October entry, and then I’ll be returning to my normal monthly schedule.

Hope to see you then!

The Warner Cast

Welcome back, everyone, and happy June!

Today, we’re looking at Warner Brothers characters. Specifically, we’re looking at some of the ones we haven’t actually looked at yet.

First, we’ll check out Pepé Le Pew. I’m pretty sure most of you know who he is, but for those of you who don’t, he’s a super horny skunk whose endless pursuit of romantic love and affection never goes the way he plans. This is generally because of his natural musk as well as his ‘no means yes’ mentality.

The main set I have with him is from 1957’s ‘Touché and Go’, wherein he tries once again to get with his primary target of affection, Penelope Cat. Towards the end of the cartoon, Penelope tries to scuba away from him.

Of course, our amorous skunk isn’t far behind, even ditching the need for a scuba tank, because, in his words, ‘When you’re a skunk, you learn to hold your breath for a long time’. So he quickly catches up to her…

And then, surprise, a shark catches up to both of them. Once Pepe deals with it, he comes back to find his quarry gone.

And thus ends this set. Unfortunately, I can’t seem to find the video right now where these shots came from.

I also have these pics of a teapot, wherein he’s just as creepy…

Next up, let’s take a look at Porky Pig, starting with some comics. I have no information about where they came from. If you have any info, please let me know.

The second set is from 2022’s ‘Practical Jerk!’, wherein Daffy basically messes with Porky with practical jokes.

Finally, let’s take a look at Pinky and the Brain. This set is from ‘Mouse Congeniality’, from the Animaniacs reboot’s second season. In it, Pinky enters a beauty contest in a Trump Tower parody so Brain can sneak into a world leaders summit upstairs.

In order to facilitate this, he ends up accessing some pipes through the ceiling.

He enters the pipes, but once he’s in there, he has a bit of a problem.

He struggles with the ‘door’ leading into the room he wants, and just before he drowns, it pops open.

Considering the wide berth of his plans, it’s shocking that this is first non-helmet scuba experience (that I know of)

And there we have it, folks! Until next time!

Wolves of Wet Street

Welcome back, everyone. Time for a new entry!

Well, someone has been asking to see more wolves, so I decided to take him up on that.

To start today off, we’re going to look at what is argubly the most famous classic Russian toon of all time ‘Well, Just You Wait!’ (Russian: Ну, погоди!, romanized: Nu, pogodi!). In it, a chain smoking wolf chases a hare with the intention of eating her. Pretty straightforward, huh?

This series of pics is from the first official episode after the pilot, ‘City and Beach’.

Spoiler Alert: This is the closest he comes to sticking that hare.

OK, my quarry is in the water, and even better, she’s stuck wearing water skis, and I have snorkelling gear on and ready to go, so she’s mine, right?

HA.

Um… yeah, I’m gonna go with…

And thus ended Wolf’s sub aqua hare hunting career.

The video of the episode…

Next up, we have 1963’s ‘Woolen Under Where’, one of a small series of Warner Brothers shorts starring one Sam Sheepdog and Ralph Wolf. Sam watches after a group of sheep, and Ralph tries to steal them. The oddest thing about this is that they are totally cordial with each other before and after their shift. Yep, this is literally a 9-5 job for them. Punch cards and all.

Anyway, in this episode, one of the tactics Ralph tries is to SCUBA dive to some sheep at a watering hole. How does that go? Let’s see…

Surprise.

Alright, why don’t we take a look at Disney’s version of the Big Bad Wolf next?

Given name Zeke Midas Wolf, he’s had a presence in Disney cartoons and comics since 1933. This particular wolf has a taste for pork, in the form of the Three Little Pigs. I happen to have some pics with him from various comics. No information on any of the stories involved right now. If I learn more, I’ll append the information here.

Just as unsuccessful as his above brethren above, as you can see.

To end off today, we’re going to take a look at Triple Z.

Honestly, I’m not sure if the characters are supposed to be dogs or wolves, but screw it, they might as well go in here anyway.

Triple Z stars Zero and Zanzibar, who are ripped through time from their lives as gladiators to the present day. With the help of Zazie, a Hollywood stuntperson, they settle into new lives as Hollywood’s best stunt team.

In ‘Agent Spécial 777’, the episode starts with Zanzibar filming an underwater fight scene ala James Bond.

Well, this doesn’t look great for our hero, huh?

Out of the frying pan…

Gotta love the movies, huh?

That’s all for this month, folks! See you next time!

What’s Up, Doc?

Welcome back, everyone!

To end off the Easter special, let’s take a look at TV Guide’s #1 cartoon character of all time!

Little factoid before we start: While a character that was kind of a draft for Bugs appeared in 1938s Porky’s Wild Hare Hunt, the Bugs we know today debuted in 1940 in the Tex Avery directed ‘A Wild Hare’.

Let’s get started.  I actually don’t have a ton of Bugs when compared to many other famous cartoon characters, but I do have enough to make a post.  Here are some coloring pages…

No prizes for guessing how this ends.

OK, from the newer Looney Tunes Show, we have ‘The Black Widow’, and in this scene, Bugs is trying to find Lola’s mother’s bracelet.

Now, some comics.  I don’t know where any of these are from, unfortunately.

(EDIT (Mar. 28th, 2023): The fourth through sixth images here are from Dell’s Bugs Bunny #71)

Now, here’s 1955’s Something Fishy.

I’m sure no-one ever thought Bugs would be full of it…

Next, we have a few sets from Baby Looney Tunes.  First is Duck’s Reflucks…

(Edit (Feb. 5th 2022): Replaced next three sets with 1080p versions)

Petunia the Piggy Bank…

The Littlest Tweety

Finally, here are the rest of what I have, including comic covers, shirts, and various other things.

Well, this is all I have of Bugs solo shots.  There’s a few more with him with other characters, but that’s for another day.

Have a great Easter, folks, and see you next week!

Daffy the Frogman… or Duckman?

OK, everyone.  I said I’d be focusing on a famous duck today, and here he is.

Did you know he was number 14 on TV Guide’s top 50 cartoon characters list?

Daffy, considering his long history, actually doesn’t have a huge place in my collection, but he does have enough for a post to be made about him.  The above book was about Daffy trying to get the better of Bugs when they’re both camp counselors of a Rabbit Troop and a Duck Troop respectively.  Of course, Daffy doesn’t exactly use ethical means to accomplish this.

Next, we have a few comics.  This is from ‘Cabana Boy’ in Daffy Duck 64.

comic1

This next one is from ‘Down in the Depths’, from Yosemite Sam And Bugs Bunny 44.

Finally, one more page.  Unfortunately, I don’t know where this one is from.

comic2

Next, we have some shots from the Looney Tunes Show episode ‘Peel of Fortune’.

(Edit (Feb. 6th, 2022): Replaced with 1080p versions)

Some miscellany here.

He’s even done some diving when he was but a wee babe.   The Baby Looney Tunes episode here is ‘Let Them Make Cake’.

(Edit (Feb. 5th, 2022): Replaced Baby Looney Tunes pics with 1080p versions)

Finally, we have a shot from a Six Flag Great Adventure & Safari ride called Daffy’s Deep Diver.  Photo comes from greatadventurehistory.com

20045243 copy

Well, that’s all I have of Daffy, at least solo.  There’s more with him in a group, but I’ll save those for another time.

Tomorrow, one more famous duck takes the stage…
