Have A Disney Day!

Happy November, everyone!

So, last month was the 100th anniversary of Disney, so let’s showcase some of that today!

Firstly, let’s start with a Me & Mickey segment, wherein he reads a book about ‘Zip the Flippin Shark’ for two ‘thrilling’ minutes.

These are from the start of the segment.

OK, so cheap and minimalist, it still counts.

And here’s the segment. You just might see a snorkeling rubber chicken in there too…

Next up, we have some random hodgepodge of Huey, Dewey, and Louie.

From top left to bottom right:

  1. Lustiges Taschenbuch Sonderband: Sommer 11: Das Strandprojekt
  2. Lustiges Taschenbuch Sonderband: Sommer 12: Eine traumhafte Unterkunft
  3. Disney Magazine: Nov. 1976
  4. Mickey Junior 443
  5. Mickey and Friends: 1994-11-25 (Not a very hospitable bunch of animals there)

To end off today, let’s look at a few more obscure characters.

This is a pin of ‘Olu Mel, an ukulele playing turtle who was created as a mascot for Aulani, Disney’s resort in Hawaii.

This camel is from ‘Animated Atlas of the World’…

Have a cute squirrel. This one is from Minnie’s Bow Toons: Picnic Panic.

And the video…

Finally, we have Cuckoo-Loca. She’s been around since 2011, when she debuted in the Minnie’s Bow Toons shorts. She’s since been a steady presence in most of the Mickey preschool shows since.

As for what she is, she’s like a weird, cuckoo bird thing that is like the ones in a cuckoo clock. Actually flies with some key thing on her tail.

This set is from Minnie’s Bow Toons’ Ducky Down the Drain, wherein she ends up conscripted to retrieve Daisy’s rubber duckie.

No, that is not a typo.

Anyway, there we go! Hope you all enjoyed, and see you all next time!

Return Of the Doo… Again

Good day, everyone! The Doo is back for another round!

So last month, I was sent a series of pics from Nap-O-Fuel of FurAffinity of some pics from Scooby Doo I hadn’t posted before, and since I didn’t have any other ideas for this month, I figured why not show them now?

These will be a hodgepodge of things, but no TV cartoons this time.

First, how about a couple of towels?

Next up, we have some comics stuff. This cover is from the UK Marvel Summer Holiday Special 1991.

Ouch.

How about a whole bunch of comics?

And here’s the list of where all this stuff is from, for easy readability…

  • 1-3: Scooby-Doo #90 (DC)
  • 4: Scooby-Doo #134
  • 5-6: Scooby-Doo #29 (The Oceanarium Horror)
  • 7-9: Scooby-Doo Where Are You 27 (DC) (See? Monster!)
  • 10-13: Scooby-Doo Where Are You #4 (The Ghostly Sea Diver)
  • 14-22: Scooby-Doo, Where Are You? #54
  • 23-32: Scooby-Doo Team Up #28
  • 33-34: Scooby-Doo Team Up #30
  • 35-36: Scooby-Doo Where Are You? #81

Next up, have a look at the season 3 DVD set of What’s New Scooby-Doo?

These last two are Mystery Mates, a series of figures that were released in the late 2000s. Here’s a scuba version… (These come from the Scooby Museum)

This came in a two pack with the Beast of Bottomless Lake.

And that he all for this month! See you all next time!

Christmas Hodgepodge

Good day, everyone! Hope you all are well.

Today is basically going to be a random day, so let’s get after it.
First up, we have Paz the Penguin, who was the mascot for the ‘Ready Set Learn!’ block on The Learning Channel and Discovery Kids starting in the early 90s. Paz himself had puppet segments and animated cartoons.

This set is from ‘Seaworthy’, wherein Paz’s dog friend is scared of the water, and the gang tries to rectify that.

And here’s the video…

Next up, we have a couple more sets from Talking Tom segments. This first one stars Hank, the OG dog in the show.

The above is actually from two cartoons. Here’s the first…

And here’s the second. Gotta say that Hank kinda comes off like a creep here.

This second set involves Ben, the geek of the group.

And here’s the video…

Next up, we have a few magazine covers from ‘Шишкин Лес’, a Russian children’s franchise that seems to be most well known as a puppet series that’s been running for quite a while. Translating roughly as ‘Shishkin Forest’ a translated synopsis reads:

‘A friendly company of animals lives in the fairy forest – the kind mouse Shunya, the mischievous wolf cub Zubok, the resilient kitten Koksik, the nimble fox Freckles and their senior mentors – the economic Raccoon Enotych and the omniscient owl Matilda Leonardovna. The merry adventures of the inhabitants of Shishkino Les help children think about good and evil, teach them to respect elders and help the younger ones, to live in peace, to forgive and understand each other, to overcome fear and laziness.’

So there you go.

These star Zubok and Freckles.

Finally, last set for the year actually comes from Family Guy’s ‘Lawyer Guy’, part of the story has Stewie and Brian becoming lobster fishermen.

The pair of them end up on a couple of dives, the first of which doesn’t end well for Brian…

On the second dive, Stewie goes to dangerous depths to finish the job to save Rupert, his stuffed bear, from the depths, only for both to have to be rescued by Brian.

Links to the videos with the scenes in question…

Alrighty, that’s all for this entry! Now, an announcement.

I’ve decided that from now on, I will no longer post on a set schedule.

I will generally now only post if an interesting new set comes my way, or just when I feel like it. This will likely mean that posts will, on the whole, be less frequent.

I apologize if this upsets some of you, but I’ve reached the stage doing this thing where I feel not as enthused about this as I did years ago, and only feel the need to post when it suits me to do so.

This is not a total exit by any means, it just means that I’ll be posting less often.

If you want to know when I post, you can sign up for email alerts on the right side, or you can follow my Twitter. I will still be fairly active there, by the way.

See you next time and happy holidays!

Minnie and Daisy

Good day, everyone. Hopefully y’all are having a nice Friday, or whatever day of the week it happens to be when you’re reading this.

So, for the third week of the anniversary, we’re going to take another request and look at Minnie Mouse and Daisy Duck, and I’m sure that they need no introduction, so let’s jump right in today.

Starting with Minnie, here’s a few pins. I’ve mentioned this before, but Disney Pin trading is a massive thing.

Next up, we have an old flash game called ‘Minnie’s Starfish Friends’.

Have some overpriced merch…

This is a quick 2 page comic from the French book ‘Le Journal de Mickey 3602-03.

Finally, have a comic cover, from a Greek Minnie book.

Now, on to the duck. Unfortunately, I don’t have as much of her where she’s not with the boyfriend, which is what I’m trying to focus on today, but here’s what I do have.

Staying with the comic covers, here’s a few for her, a Brazilian and a pair of Dutch covers…

And here’s a clip art piece.

Here’s a towel that I believe was sold in the Netherlands…

And that’s it, I’m afraid.

Well, that’s all from me this week, folks. See you next Friday!

The Cover Band, Part 3

Good day, everyone. No April Fools here, it’s new entry day!

Today, we’re looking at more comic covers, but today, it’s gonna be all Disney, baby. Let’s get to it.

Keep in mind that most of these covers will be from various European countries along with a couple from South America.

First of all, let’s take a look at Uncle Scrooge. He’s had a massive part in the Disney comics scene for decades, so he’s had many opportunities to enter the collection…

No surprise most of these involve money.

Well, why don’t we take a look at the nephews next?

Next, why don’t we look at some of the mouse himself..

And finally, how about some miscellaneous characters?

So, that’ll do it for this month. See you all next time!

Random Day 10

Wow, it’s been over year and a half since the last Random Day, so let’s do one right now. Welcome back, everyone!

First of all, before we get into the pics today, I’d be remiss if I didn’t speak of the ongoing war in Ukraine. I stand with Ukraine, and hope beyond hope that Putin does the right thing, and if not him, then the Russian military and people.

For news from the ground minus the spin of certain parties, please check out the Kyiv Independent.

If you wish to donate to the Ukrainian Armed Forces, you can donate to the Come Back Alive Fund.

To support humanitarian aid, you can go to UNICEF, among others.

Alright, back to the show.

First up, I have a fairly large set, from the original Rocky and Bullwinkle, as a matter of fact. This is from the Wailing Whale story ark, wherein our plucky heroes seek to catch the ship devouring whale Maybe Dick. At one point, Bullwinkle gets pulled underwater by a periscope and Rocky ends up diving to save him, only to find more than he bargained for…

From an air tank too heavy for him to grabby claws, Rocky really screwed himself on this one.

To find out how he inevitably gets saved, check out the whole story ark here:

Here, have some bonus comic pages. These are from Rocky and Bullwinkle #5’s (Gold Key) ‘Underwater Moose’.

Finally, a cover…

Moving on, let’s take a look at the Backyardigans, a show where five animal friends act out adventures in their backyard, while singing songs. It was actually going to be a puppet show initially, but after Nickelodeon rejected the pilot, it got reworked into the animated series you see today.

This set is from the Swamp Creature, where Uniqua and Pablo act as tour guides taking tourists out to find a ‘swamp monster’.

The video:

Also, have some pages from a couple of books. First five are from ‘Deep Sea Countdown’.

To end off today, got a new set from Arthur for you.

Arthur ended it’s 25 season run last month, and it ended with a marathon of (almost) every episode, and the final season.

This set comes ‘Arthur’s New Old Vacation’. The scene basically has them finding an ‘equipment room’ at the beach where they’re on vacation, inside which they find a ping pong table. In the act of trying to find the paddles and balls for it, they find flippers and a swim mask, along with a wiffle ball, but no ping pong stuff. They basically say ‘screw it’, and away they go using that instead.

The wiffle ball serves fine, the flippers are apparently rigid enough to serve as paddles, and the mask, well… it’s Buster, which is all the explanation I personally need for THAT.

You can find the episode at PBSkids’ Arthur page. (US IPs only)

Thanks for reading, everyone! See you next month!

Wolves of Wet Street

Welcome back, everyone. Time for a new entry!

Well, someone has been asking to see more wolves, so I decided to take him up on that.

To start today off, we’re going to look at what is argubly the most famous classic Russian toon of all time ‘Well, Just You Wait!’ (Russian: Ну, погоди!, romanized: Nu, pogodi!). In it, a chain smoking wolf chases a hare with the intention of eating her. Pretty straightforward, huh?

This series of pics is from the first official episode after the pilot, ‘City and Beach’.

Spoiler Alert: This is the closest he comes to sticking that hare.

OK, my quarry is in the water, and even better, she’s stuck wearing water skis, and I have snorkelling gear on and ready to go, so she’s mine, right?

HA.

Um… yeah, I’m gonna go with…

And thus ended Wolf’s sub aqua hare hunting career.

The video of the episode…

Next up, we have 1963’s ‘Woolen Under Where’, one of a small series of Warner Brothers shorts starring one Sam Sheepdog and Ralph Wolf. Sam watches after a group of sheep, and Ralph tries to steal them. The oddest thing about this is that they are totally cordial with each other before and after their shift. Yep, this is literally a 9-5 job for them. Punch cards and all.

Anyway, in this episode, one of the tactics Ralph tries is to SCUBA dive to some sheep at a watering hole. How does that go? Let’s see…

Surprise.

Alright, why don’t we take a look at Disney’s version of the Big Bad Wolf next?

Given name Zeke Midas Wolf, he’s had a presence in Disney cartoons and comics since 1933. This particular wolf has a taste for pork, in the form of the Three Little Pigs. I happen to have some pics with him from various comics. No information on any of the stories involved right now. If I learn more, I’ll append the information here.

Just as unsuccessful as his above brethren above, as you can see.

To end off today, we’re going to take a look at Triple Z.

Honestly, I’m not sure if the characters are supposed to be dogs or wolves, but screw it, they might as well go in here anyway.

Triple Z stars Zero and Zanzibar, who are ripped through time from their lives as gladiators to the present day. With the help of Zazie, a Hollywood stuntperson, they settle into new lives as Hollywood’s best stunt team.

In ‘Agent Spécial 777’, the episode starts with Zanzibar filming an underwater fight scene ala James Bond.

Well, this doesn’t look great for our hero, huh?

Out of the frying pan…

Gotta love the movies, huh?

That’s all for this month, folks! See you next time!

Birds of a Feather

Another month, another post! Welcome back, everyone!

Today, we’re going to be taking a look at some of our feathered friends once again.

First, let’s take a look at Calimero. This is an Italian character that’s had a few animated series. So, basically, he’s a black chicken with half of his eggshell still on his head, and he goes on adventures with his friends, Priscilla, Piero, and Valeriano. Pretty straightforward stuff.

Learn more about the characters here.

These pics are from the 1992 series, episode 36, ‘Notte ai grandi magazzini’, wherein they end up in a department store overnight (presumably the one Piero’s dad owns), and end up having to defend it against a group of rat thieves.

The episode in question (In Italian)…

Next up, we have some pages from a Cow and Chicken comic. Unfortunately, I have no details about where it came from at this time.

Next up, we have a scene from Chocobo’s Dungeon 2, where the chocobo protagonist has to ditch a failing submarine to seek an entrance to a dungeon.

And the video with the cutscene…

And finally, to end off today, a couple of shots from ‘Kirby: Right Back at Ya!’, from ‘A Fish Called Kine’, where Kine, the fish animal friend from the Kirby games, tries to romance Tiff, the show’s ‘sister’ figure, and of course, encounters issues with trying to court an air breather.

In the meantime, King Dedede is planning on making an undersea resort where Kine happens to live. In this scene, Dedede doesn’t appear very confident in the sub that he’s in…

Well, that’s all for this post, everyone. Stay safe, and I’ll see you next time.

Swim Into the Holidays

Hello, everyone! Long time no see!

Yeah, took a bit more time off than I expected, but I kinda needed it. Hell, I still do. However, I decided that I should make at least one entry before the end of the year, lest y’all forget about this place, so here I am!

I don’t really have a unifying theme today, so we’ll treat this as a Random Day. Let’s go to the first set, shall we?

Just over a year ago, we took a look at Kangoo Juniors, but now, we’re taking a look at the adult versions that proceeded them. Specifically, this set is from ‘Les Kangoo Aux Jeux’, a special 20 episode series in 2000 where they basically complete in the Olympics against the villains from their mainline series.

This set is from ‘Panique sur la village’, and at the start of the episode, there’s a free diving competition. One of the villains, Janus goes first, and reaches the 120 mark. Napo goes next, but there’s suspicious doings….

With the cameramen in the water out of commission, Janus’ henchmen begin their work…

With Napo unable to free himself, he sends out a distress call with a transceiver he had in his pocket, presumably in case something like this happened.

Kevin, after saving the cameraman that got taken out, reaches an unconscious Napo, and tries to revive him, but it doesn’t look good at first…

… of course they’re not gonna let the leader snuff it, especially not like that. They take care of the henchs on the way back, and reach the surface. End scene.

This scene was fairly quick, but pretty action packed. Kevin’s gear wasn’t exactly eye popping, but it looks good for what it is; no glaring flaws from what I can see. The henchmen’s are a bit different though, which I appreciate.

Here’s the episode on YouTube.

Next up, we have Ranger Rick making another appearance. These are from November/December 2020’s issue.

Eh, still not a fan of this style, honestly, though I may have softened towards it just a bit.

OK, next up, we have a set from the animated version of Prezzemolo, and cartoon starring a dragon who travels with his friends to defeat an evil witch. He actually is the mascot of Gardaland, an Italian theme park. He’s had comic books as well.

This sets comes from the episode ‘Il ritorno di Aurora’. His friends Mousely and T-Gey join him here.

Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to find a video clip presently online of this.

Finally, ending today, we have a series from Maisy. This is based on the books by Lucy Cousins. These are from the ‘Dolphin’ episode.

Thanks to TheEvstar at DeviantArt for letting me know about this one.

Here’s the video. You know, her vocalizations make it sound like she’s struggling the entire time she’s down there…

Alright, that’s all for this time, everyone.

Please note that there will no longer be regular updates to this blog; I will post when the mood strikes me, basically. Could be a week, or months. If you haven’t already, consider subscribing to receive notifications of new posts.

Thanks for looking, and I’ll see you next time, whenever that is. Oh, and Happy Holidays!

Random Day 9

Welcome back, everyone. I don’t have a lot of time this week, so this one will be relatively short. Let’s get started.

These first two pics are from a short ‘Matt Lamite’ comic, which regularly appeared in France’s Disney comic publications. Not a lot of info on this series to be had, that I can find, sadly, but here’s the comics.

Next up, we have some shots from Happy Tree Friends, an extraordinarily cute but violent cartoon with multiple deaths in each episode, usually of the messy variety. These shots are from ‘Sea What I Found’, and star Lifty and Shifty, a pair of kleptomaniac raccoons.

(Edit (Feb. 7th, 2022): Replaced with 1080p versions and added video link)

And a video link for you… (VERY NSFW)

Here’s one more of these two, from ‘Gems the Breaks’.

Here’s a couple of more, from ‘Wheelin’ and Dealin’ with Lumpy, a… somewhat dimwitted moose.

Finally, one more set with Lumpy, from what I think is a DVD Promo shot.

To end today, why don’t we take a trip to Chuck E. Cheese?

Better be quick about it; it just filed for bankruptcy protection. Really.

This spot is from the franchise’s 20th anniversary show in April 1997, and has Mr. Munch and Helen Henny outside of a sub that’s taking the rest of the gang to Atlantis.

And here’s the segment…

That’s all for this week, everyone!
